Welcome to Sole Fundamentals
If you’re here, you’re probably trying to figure out which fitness equipment is actually worth your money — not just based on specs or marketing claims, but on how it performs in real training.
That’s exactly what this site is about.Sole Fundamentals is my personal project built from a deep passion for training and a long-standing curiosity about how fitness equipment really performs outside of marketing claims and specification sheets.
I created this website to share what I’ve learned over the years — experience, observations, mistakes, and small discoveries that can help others train more effectively, comfortably, and confidently.
Why Sole Fundamentals Exists
I still remember how confusing it was when I first started seriously building a home gym.
On paper, most products look almost identical. Specifications seem impressive, marketing promises are strong, and everything appears “high quality.”
But real-life experience often tells a completely different story.
That’s exactly why Sole Fundamentals exists.
I wanted to create a place where people can honestly understand:
what actually works versus what just looks good in marketing
which equipment feels good and practical in daily use
what lasts for years of training and what quickly disappoints
and whether a product is truly worth the investment
This is not about perfect ratings or promotional hype. It’s about real experience and honest conclusions.
I don’t write reviews based on advertisements or simply repeat manufacturer descriptions.
Every piece of content on this site is created through a structured, research-based process that combines several perspectives:
I carefully review official product specifications, manuals, and technical documentation to understand how each piece of equipment is designed to perform.
No product exists in isolation. I compare equipment against competing models in the same category to understand real differences in quality, price, performance, and overall value.
I analyze publicly available user reviews and long-term ownership experiences. This helps identify consistent strengths, weaknesses, and potential issues that are not always visible from specifications alone.
With over 17 years of consistent training experience, I’ve used a wide range of fitness equipment in both commercial gyms and home setups. This allows me to evaluate products not only theoretically, but from a practical, real-world perspective.
My goal is to keep this website honest, useful, and focused on the reader.
I always aim to:
present both strengths and weaknesses fairly
avoid exaggerated claims or marketing-style language
explain things in a clear and practical way
prioritize the reader’s needs over brands or promotions
If new information becomes available or products are updated, I revisit and update content to keep it accurate and relevant.
Some pages on Sole Fundamentals may include affiliate links. If you purchase through these links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
However, this never influences my opinions, conclusions, or recommendations.
If a product has flaws or does not perform well, I will say so honestly — even if affiliate links are present.

My name is Steven Hopkins, and Sole Fundamentals is a project I built out of a long-term passion for training and fitness equipment.
I have been training consistently for over 17 years, and over time fitness became much more than just a habit — it became a core part of my lifestyle. It taught me discipline, patience, and a better understanding of how the body responds to training.
Over the years, I also developed a strong interest in the equipment itself — not just using it, but understanding how and why it performs the way it does.
Why does one treadmill feel stable and smooth, while another feels uncomfortable or unreliable?
Why does one machine last for years, while another starts showing issues much sooner?
These questions led me to start paying closer attention to details, testing different equipment, comparing models, and learning from both personal experience and other users’ feedback.
Sole Fundamentals is where I share all of that.
Not as a brand. Not as a corporation.
But as someone who genuinely loves training and wants to help others choose equipment that will truly support their fitness journey for years to come.
